GIF2MNG (v1.0 - 1.0MB) |
G. Juyn (freeware - Windows 9x/ME/NT/2K/XP) GIF2MNG allows you to convert a directory of GIF's to MNG (or PNG if they happen to be still-images). The current version is a preview but already gives rather promising results: from 25% and up savings on an average batch of optimized GIFs is pretty good! Imagine saving 30% or better on storage and bandwidth costs. Now those advertisement and GIF library maintainers have something to think about!!! As a bonus, GIF2MNG also optimizes not already too complicated MNGs as well. So you can use designer-tools like JASC Animation Shop or PNG/MNG Construction Set and then compress the heck out of those MNGs! |

Animation Shop |
JASC (commercial - Windows 9x/NT) Also bundled with the popular "Paint Shop Pro". AS uses MNG purely as an internal storage format of its animations/video fragments, and doesn't seem to be geared towards optimum MNG files. The files do not adhere completely to the official MNG specification and by solely using color_type 6 (eg. 32-bit RGBA), the files are really bloated! Note that there is a little Windows tool (FixMNG) that can fix a few of the problems with AS files. A download-link can be found below. |
